Eggless Orange Cream Biscuits

You cant forget bourbon and orange cream biscuits if you are born and brought in India, in 90's bourbon biscuits and cream biscuits were quite famous among the kids. I cant forget the taste of those biscuits and those moments are so special for me. Whenever my maternal uncle makes his trip to our place, we will look for both bourbon and orange cream biscuits, he never comes home with these biscuits. I still remember the taste and crunchiness of this biscuits. When you get a chance to make your own batch of orange cream biscuits at home, who will miss the chance.Even i dont want to miss the chance to make some orange flavored biscuits at home, actually i want to give a try to some cream biscuits since a while but somehow i couldnt able to bake them. Finally for this week's Fond Bites-Bake Along a weekly event by Subhashini, she suggested this cream biscuits.Every week we get to know about the week's challenge and the members of this group should bake and share either in their blog or with the group members. Seriously am having real fun with this group actually learning so many different bakes every week.

Orange cream biscuits, Cream biscuits with hung curd, Orange cream biscuits

The original recipe of this orange cream biscuits goes for an egg yolk which is replaced with 1/8cup of hung curd.Hung curd works absolutely incredible in this biscuits, hung curd is prepared easily at home by straining yoghurt in a muslin cloth, keep it in a strainer with a bowl. The next day, collect the thick hung curd from the cloth and use it. Coming to this biscuits, they are dangerously addictive eventhough orange zest and a teaspoon of orange juice is used in this biscuits, trust me even orange zest and orange juice goes for less quantity you wont miss the orange flavor here. We couldnt stop ourselves by munching this utterly delicious biscuits, this recipe is a keeper and next time i'll try these biscuits with an egg yolk.

Biscuits with orange cream, Eggless orange cream biscuits

150grms All purpose flour
115grms Unsalted butter (room temperature)
115grms Castor sugar
1/8cup Hung curd
2tsp Honey
2tsp Orange zest
25grms Custard powder (vanilla flavoured)
1/2tsp Cream of tartar (optional)
1/2tsp Baking soda
1/4tsp Salt

For orange cream:
40grms Unsalted butter
75grms Icing sugar
1tsp Orange zest
1tsp Orange juice

Preheat the oven to 350F, line a baking sheet over a baking tray

Sieve the flour, custard powder, salt, baking soda together, keep aside.

Beat the butter and sugar together as smooth and fluffy mixture,add the honey,hung curd, orange zest and beat everything again well.

Add the flour mixture, mix well and form a smooth dough.Pinch the dough as small balls, flatten them and arrange over a baking sheet lined over a baking tray.


Bake for 15-20minutes until the crust turns brown.

Meanwhile prepare the orange cream, beat the butter to smooth, add in the icing sugar, orange zest and orange juice, beat everything as a smooth cream.

Transfer the cream to a piping bag.

Arrange the baked biscuits to a wire rack and let them completely.

Now pipe the orange cream to a biscuit, top it with an another one, arrange aside.

Continue the same process with the remaining biscuits and cream.

Enjoy this cream biscuits with your favourite drink.

Notes:
Cream of tartar is optional here, you can or skip it, but its gives slight crispiness to the biscuits.

Egg yolk can be used instead of hung curd.

homemade cream biscuits? Dangerous.. Because these are addictive and how to stop at one?
